Aquarium Tests
May 2008, Vermont, USA
The ‘Aquarium Test’ was first developed by The World Fire Safety Foundation in 2006 and made into a film which was renamed ‘Smoke Alarm Recall’ and, as at 25 April, 2011, is in its 56th revision.
The Aquarium Test was designed to show fire fighters the inherent defects with ionization smoke alarms and inspire them to conduct their own full-scale tests.
Numerous Aquarium and full-scale tests have been performed by Fire Departments across the USA. In these real-world, full-scale tests the ionization alarms performed as in the Aquarium Tests - they failed to sound a timely warning in smouldering fires.
The Barre City, Vermont Fire Department was America’s first Fire Department to perform an Aquarium Test.
